Antique Italian painting from the second half of the 17th century. Oil painting on canvas depicting religious subject, Christ and the Samaritan woman at the well. Jesus is on a journey and decides to stop at a well. A woman of Samaritan origin approaches and Jesus asks her for a drink. For the Jews, the Samaritans were impure heretics, so they avoided them and did not speak to them. Christ does not care about this tradition and the woman reacts with amazement. Painting of beautiful size and proportion adorned with 20th century wooden frame, carved, lacquered and gilded (bronze tinting, see photo). Painting that develops horizontally, pleasant perspective and luminosity of the work characterised by bright colours. Painting that has undergone intensive conservation restoration, re-staining, replacement of the frame and repainting in places. In good condition with some signs of restoration.
