Description: Of exceptional Neapolitan manufacturing, this elegant antique Smith style wardrobe was created with a mahogany feather door inlaid with maple. In the upper part there is a pediment with a baroque inlay depicting two animal figures. The hat has an arch carving also inlaid supported by two finely carved pilasters with Corinthian capitals, the mirror is original of the time
At the bottom there are two drawers also inlaid with figures of warriors in combat. George Smith: Owner of a large cabinet-making workshop in London and active between 1804 and 1828, famous for having published an album of engravings entitled “A Collection of Designs for Household Furniture” in 1808, some scholars advanced the hypothesis that the Neapolitan “Smith” furniture was inspired by the designs of George Smith. Measurements: 125x60 H 225cm.
Condition: Restored by our master craftsmen with traditional shellac and handmade alcohol method. Provenance: Naples (1820/30).
