Description: The painting has a theatrical and scenic composition, typical of the Lorrainian tradition. On the sides, the scene is framed by natural elements, such as high and shady trees that act as scenic fifths. This compositional system leads the viewer's gaze towards the background, almost inviting him to "enter" the scene. The human figures animate the first floor, rich in vegetation with contrasts and strong chiaroscuro effects.
In the second floor the river view opens, dominated by a large light. The watercourse winds gently in the landscape, accompanying the gaze. In the distance, an airy and wide view opens, under a sky with pearly and rosé tones - the Lorrainian landscape. The radiant light suggests a moment of the day between late afternoon and dawn. The atmospheric perspective is made with great delicacy, and returns a sense of immense, almost spiritual distance.
Although free of signature, the work clearly reveals the influence of Claude Lorrain, both in the space system and in the poetic use of light. The current frame, although not coeval, is of fine manufacture, with rich and deep carving decoration. The original gilding, well preserved, gives a light shot by putting the painting right.
