Black and white vase Kosta Boda hand-painted and signed by the Swedish artist Ulrica Hydman-Vallien (1938-2018).
This splendid tiny pot is the small version of the caramba model of the famous Swedish artist Ulrica Hydman-Vallien is a wild visual journey. The vase itself is beautiful, made of transparent glass with swirling white stripes that give the piece an opal glow. The glass is gently blown in a simple and elegant form; The ovoid shape and short and wide neck have an aesthetic touch of art and crafts. But this graceful form is painted with black enamel in wild and surreal designs, the dark color creates a clear contrast with the soft vortices of the underlying glass. Inspired by the period spent by the artist in Mexico, elements of plants and animals are also added to the abstract forms of the painting, which give them the feeling of totemic or mythical creatures. The forms are positioned in the composition to strange corners, none of the forms is in relation to each other spatially, giving life to a design that seems to teem with energy, as if we were seeing the primordial origins of life. The nail polish is rough with scramble so that the glass below is visible, giving the effect of the cameo glass.
Ulrica Hydman-Vallien was a Swedish artist specialized in artistic and painted windows. He studied at the University of Arts, crafts and design (Konstfack) in Stockholm, Sweden. Initially he studied Ceramica and one of his teachers was Stig Lindberg, the best known ceramist for his work with Gustavsberg. Hydman-Vallien began his professional career in the glass sector around 1971 working for Kosta Boda and is known above all for his humorous and extravagant motifs of snakes, tulips and wolves. His works were prolific and very popular in the 80s, 90s and 2000. His works are present in the collections of numerous museums internationally
