Neoclassical writing desk in walnut, late 18th century
This rare and beautiful Piacenza desk is a magnificent example of the neoclassical abanisteria of the end of the eighteenth century. Made with skill, the furniture has a wealth of details and a formal elegance that make it a collector of a collector of great value. Main features: Wood and processing: the cabinet is made in walnut with a splendid launching that creates games of extraordinary veins. The surface is glossy in shellac and reflects the light, enhancing the depth and warm colors of the wood. Inlays and decorations: the floor shows in the center a circular medallion inlaid in Bosso and Bois de Rose woods and depicts a floral reason to radial, a typical decoration of the neoclassical taste. The inlay is surrounded by a frame that delimits a thorn area of fish, with the external panels showing a "book" arrangement that enhances the natural beauty of the veins. Structure and lines: the shape is rectangular and slender, with a front drawer centered by a brass nozzle. The legs, tapered and grooved, end with an inverted pyramid trunk. This choice gives the furniture an extreme visual lightness, typical of neoclassicism that moves away from the heaviest shapes of the Baroque. Details and finishes: the threads that decorate the drawer and the plane are made of Bois de Rose, creating a clear contrast and a refined editorial. State of conservation: the furniture is in excellent general condition, restored and polished with shellac finish. Dimensions: width, 97 cm depth, 54 cm height 80 cm.
