Painting on table, the circumcision of Christ, 16th century
Ancient Italian painting of the second half of the 16th century. Oil work on table depicting an important evangelical episode, the circumcision of Jesus, of difficult availability and remarkable pictorial quality. The scene takes place inside a solemn architecture, a newsstand with columns and curtains that frames the composition. Within two arches that open on the bottom, large mountain views appear that give depth thanks to the technique of aerial perspective. The child is placed in the center, supported by San Giuseppe and delivered to the priest, who wears a sumptuous parade with precious golden embroidery. The use of ringing colors, the lively drapery and the expressive faces refer to the mannerist pictorial language of northern Italy. Perfect for collectors and admirers of Renaissance sacred art, the painting is ideal for embellishing a study or living room and can be easily set in a classic or modern environment. Work already restored with a new park on the back and recovery of color in small points. Overall in good conservative state.
