P.J.Mêne, gilded and burnished bronze sculpture of a "Horse" with black marble base, original 19th century
Beautiful and rare Sculpture by Pierre Jules Mêne (1810-1879) in Gilded and Burnished Bronze, representing a Horse in a beautiful plastic pose. Pierre Jules Mêne was one of the 19th century pioneers of animal sculptures. The rarity of this bronze is the use of gilding in rendering the horse (he made very few like this), making it even more valuable and elegant patina of black mane, tail and hooves. Signed, rests on a black marble base. Original from the mid 19th century, in an excellent state of preservation.
