Elegant 19th century Orthodox icon made of silver and mounted on a wooden stand. The surface of the silver is finely worked with relief and chiseled decorations, which reproduce the traditional ornamental motifs characteristic of ecclesiastical goldsmithing of the time. The sacred image is rendered according to the Orthodox devotional tradition, combining spiritual presence and fine workmanship. The silver has a beautiful naturally aged patina, which enhances the depth and detail of the relief. There are silver hallmarks which confirm the authenticity of the material. Material: 925 silver, wood Technique: embossing, chisel, engraving Period: 19th century Beautiful devotional object and collectible example of 19th century Orthodox religious silverware. Provenance: formerly belonging to a private European collection; purchased in the 1920s on the antiques market in Vienna (Austria). The object has been found in Europe for several decades.
