Item description

Charming early 19th-century Dutch genre scene depicting a seated musician in a rustic interior, playing a stringed instrument beside a table with a small vessel. The composition is built around a warm chiaroscuro effect, with the figure emerging from a subdued background and highlighted by soft, directional light—typical of Dutch and Dutch-inspired cabinet paintings. Executed in oil on wooden panel, the work retains an intimate scale suited to a study or cabinet setting. The painting is signed (signature not fully legible from the available images). Presented in a decorative gilt frame with classic scrolling and corner ornament. Provenance: Formerly in a European private collection; acquired 1920s on the Vienna antiques market (Austria). The object has been in Europe for several decades.
