Item description

The painting depicts the seated Virgin Mary tenderly holding the Christ Child in an intimate embrace. Mary wears a green tunic with gold-lined sleeves and a red cloak draped over her lap and shoulders, complemented by a simple pearl necklace. The naked Child stands on her knees, leaning upwards to touch her face in a sweet and affectionate gesture, while Mary looks downwards with serene devotion. The background is dark and neutral, focusing attention entirely on the figures without additional elements such as angels or landscapes. Provinance: Formerly in a private European collection, purchased on the antiques market in Vienna (Austria). The object has been in Europe for several decades.
