Item description

Oil Painting "Le Rampe a San Niccolò" Florence, signed early 1900s. Measures 40x30cm. The oil painting depicts the Poggi Ramps in Florence, a monumental staircase leading to Piazzale Michelangelo. The ramps are a remarkable example of landscape architecture, designed by Giuseppe Poggi in the 19th century. Their original purpose was to consolidate the slopes of the San Miniato hill, stabilizing the ground with cisterns and water conduits. The complex underwent a restoration in 2018-2019, which restored the original fountain system and vegetation. The walk along the ramps is considered one of the most beautiful in Florence and offers panoramic views of the city.
