Bruno Gecchelin (Milan, 1939) trained at the Olivetti studio directed by Ettore Sottsass before opening his own studio in 1976, working in furniture and lighting design for O-Luce, Skipper, Arteluce, iGuzzini and Reggiani. The “Gesto Terra” was designed in 1974 for Gruppo Skipper as part of his Gesto family of fixtures, and this large-scale arched version is a rare variant of the more common columnar model with indirect light, bringing the format to a full architectural scale. The lamp’s structure rests on a rectangular white marble base with a recessed handle — a distinctive Gecchelin detail — supporting two parallel tubes in polished chrome-plated steel, bent to form the arc. A bracket at the midpoint of the arc secures the two tubes together; the terminal head features an elongated diffuser. This extra-large arched version of the “Gesto Terra” is the rarest of the versions.
