Item description

This splendid armchair is the iconic high-back "Archie" model, designed by renowned American designer Milo Baughman for historic manufacturer Thayer Coggin in 1965. This model is part of the fruitful fifty-year partnership (1953-2003) between Baughman and the High Point, North Carolina, company that redefined modern furniture across the Atlantic. The wooden structure is distinguished by a beautiful exposed solid teak shell with contoured, flowing armrests, combined with a curved wood backrest with a pointed arch design that characterizes this model, making it very elegant and distinctive. This model was originally conceived in two coordinated versions. The high-back variant (or "His") features a slender line and button-tufted cushions, while the low-back variant ("Hers") offers a more compact profile with a lower backrest. This model for sale is the High-back or "His" model, usually the most popular and sought-after. Originally equipped with Pirelli elastic straps on the bottom to support the seat, these, still original and in excellent condition, were "tightened" during the recent restoration. In addition to polishing (there were no missing pieces; the entire frame was original), the two seat cushions were completely remade to the exact measurements and shape of the originals (only the back cushion was capitonné on both sides), and covered with a velvet fabric matching (and in color) the original.
