An exceptionally large and heavy vintage glass bowl by Josef Hospodka for Chřibská, Czechoslovakia, dating from the 1960s. This sculptural bowl is made from solid Bohemian art glass in an intense cranberry or raspberry pink, encased in clear glass. A particularly distinctive feature is the free-form, strongly curved silhouette with widely flared glass sections and a solid, transparent base. Due to the varying thicknesses of the glass, the colour effect changes depending on the viewing angle and the incidence of light, ranging from a vibrant pink to a transparent rosé. With a diameter of around 35 cm and a weight of approximately 4 kg, the bowl has an exceptionally monumental presence. Josef Hospodka was one of the leading designers in post-war Czechoslovakian glass production and worked closely with the long-established Chřibská glassworks. His organically shaped designs, crafted from solid, overlaid coloured glass, are today among the most characteristic examples of Bohemian Art Glass from the 1960s. Hospodka was head designer for Borské Sklo and Chřibská from 1958 to 1970.
