A 1970s Italian ashtray in travertine marble, featuring a sculptural fish shape and attributed to Fratelli Mannelli. The design transforms a functional object into a playful and highly recognizable decorative element, with the fish's profile defined by a rounded body, pointed tail, and carved details reminiscent of fins and mouth.
The natural porosity of the travertine and the warm cream tones create subtle variations in surface and color, making every part of the piece texturally interesting. A circular cavity is carved at the center, designed to serve as an ashtray.
The simplified animal shape and geometric workmanship recall the language of Italian Midcentury Modern decorative objects of the 1970s. Today, the piece can also be used as a pocket emptier, a vide-poche, or a small decorative centerpiece.
