Item description

Oval ceramic plate depicting a siren and a marine captain transformed into mermaid, designed and produced by Giovanni de Simone in Sicily in the 1960s. In excellent condition. Ceramista born in Palermo in 1930 and active between Rome and Palermo, Dova has a laboratory called "Maioliche d'Arte de Simone", Giovanni de Simone realizes, starting from the years of the second post-war period, floor tiles and hand-painted coating, objects User's furnishing and sculptures in traditional and modern style inspired by primitivism, but revisited in a scan key and characterized by the use of bulk enamels, bright colors. The creator fantasy of the artist draws inspiration from folklore and Sicilian traditions and the great masters of modern art such as Picasso, Matisse, Leger and Klee. The unique style of De Simone has become international, enjoying particular success throughout Europe and also in Australia and the United States.
