This pair of “Confidential” lounge chairs was designed by Alberto Rosselli for Saporiti Italia in 1972. Rosselli was an architect, a partner of Gio Ponti and Antonio Fornaroli in Studio P.F.R., and the founder of the magazine Stile Industria. In the Confidential series he set out a whole family of seating, with chairs, sofas and modular elements, all built on the same idea: the backrest and armrest cushions interlock and wrap around the seat, and that joint becomes the visible design itself. The series is counted among the first modular seating systems conceived for the private home. Each chair is built on a padded polyurethane foam body. The deep seat cushion is held by a single continuous backrest that curves forward to form the arms. Both chairs are upholstered in ochre-mustard suede with a soft nap. The stitching follows the rounded volumes and stresses the low, compact silhouette. The visible split at the center of the backrest, where the two wrapping cushions meet, is the defining detail of the model. These two retain their original period suede, with an even patina, tonal variations and light wear on the most handled surfaces, and both carry the Saporiti mark beneath the base.
