View of the Phlegraean Fields, Neapolitan oil painting on canvas, 19th century
Antique oil painting on canvas with coeval frame depicting a view of the Phlegrean Fields. In this painting the painter tries to capture the suggestions coming from the research of contemporary landscape painting, an example provided by the so-called Posillipo School and some of its passionate interpreters. There is a freer use of the brushstroke and a more modern compositional approach, no longer rigidly linked to the classic hackertian module learned from Fergola. Particularly evident in this view of Pozzuoli is the stylistic closeness to Giacinto Gigante with his view of the Terra district amidst dense vegetation with a background depicting the Phlegrean landscape.
