Adoration of the Magi, oil on canvas, 18th century
Oil on canvas depicting the Adoration of the Magi, made in Naples in the 18th century. The theme is developed according to traditional iconography: the Magi are facing the Holy Family, on the left of the composition. The eldest, kneeling in adoration of the Child while kissing his foot, has already laid the gift at the feet of the Virgin, while the second and third ones await their moment to honor the sacred event with the gifts still in their hands. Providing a perspective background are two clouds with putti observing the scene.
