PLATINUM Seller in Cuneo, Italy
Antique Italian painting from the second half of the 17th century. Oil on canvas painting depicting biblical subject 'The Sale of the Primogeniture'. Horizontal painting of beautiful size and proportion, for antique dealers, interior decorators and collectors of antique sacred art. The Bible narrates that the patriarch Isaac had two sons, first Esau and then Jacob. Esau sold his brother the birthright for a plate of lentils and thus lost the right to his father's blessing at the point of death. Jacob had in fact put on his clothes and deceived Isaac, who was now blind but recognised his sons by their smell. The painter also includes in the painting the figure of the mother Rebecca (see photo) who indulges her favourite son. Painting that has undergone conservation restoration, re-staining, frame replacement and colour repainting in several places (see photo). Work with several signs of time and restoration, overall in fair condition. In need of restoration.
