A highly decorative pair of Belgian alabaster urn table lamps circa 1930s. Executed in a refined Art Deco classical vocabulary reminiscent of the work of Jules Wabbes, Leleu and other leading decorators of the interwar period. Beautifully proportioned, each lamp is carved from solid translucent alabaster with softly graduated veining in warm ivory, grey and subtle honey tones. When illuminated, the stone emits a remarkable warm glow, revealing the natural depth and organic patterning of the alabaster. The design is both restrained and sculptural, combining a flared trumpet-shaped body with a classical pedestal base, delicately accented by fine beaded metal trim to the rim and foot. These lamps were purpose-made as lighting rather than later conversions. They show some light surface marks consistent with age while retaining their original architectural integrity. They have been professionally rewired to modern safety standards and are ready for use. Please see all images.
