An admirable detail is the border of the platform executed in leather, which emphasizes its luxurious appeal. Born in Venice in 1935, Tobia Scarpa is the son of the famous architect Carlo Scarpa. Together with his wife Afra, Tobia began working in the Venini glass factory in Murano in the 1950s.
In 1960 the couple opened their own design studio in Montebelluna, and soon worked together with large companies such as Flos, Cassina, B&B Italia, and Knoll. Reading, and uses new materials and cutting-edge technologies. Their design style embraces a resolutely modern aesthetic, whose priority is elegance and comfort, and the pair's products are above all admired for their simplicity and elegance, which makes them easy to combine with more classic designs.
Maxalto was originally set up in 1975 as a high-end division of B&B Italia to focus exclusively on the production of artisanal, mostly wood furniture. Tobia & Afra designed for numerous major Italian and international companies like Flos, Gavina, B&B Italia, Cassina, Knoll International and many interior projects for numerous companies worldwide.
