Iron “Sengese” throwing knife with leather handle, produced by the mafa/matakam group of the Kirdi, a population living in the Mandara Mountains between north-western Cameroon and north-eastern Nigeria. The metal eyelets were used to attach a rope or an anchor chain. This type of knife was often used as a ceremonial emblem that manifested the social status of the owner.
