Item description

Rare and important dining table designed by Osvaldo Borsani for Arredamenti Borsani Varedo in the 1950s, authentic testimony of the highest level achieved by the Italian design in the second post -war period. The load -bearing structure, in dark lacquered rosewood with sculptural and fluid shapes, is a perfect example of Borsani's poetics, always poised between architectural rigor and plastic tension. The central legs, slender and carved with dynamism, define an organic and at the same time rational volume, in which the structural function also becomes primary aesthetic element. The fine in precious Calacatta marble, with its natural veins and slightly shaped edges, adds an elegant and bright material counterpoint, restoring balance and lightness to the whole. The contrast between the refinement of marble and the intensity of polished wood generates a harmonious dialogue of materials and proportions that tells the innovative spirit of the Borsani production. Osvaldo Borsani was a central figure of Italian design and architecture of the twentieth century, capable of combining the legacy of the great Lombard artisan tradition with an international and profoundly modern vision of the project. After training at the Polytechnic of Milan, he assumes the direction of the family business, transforming it from classical ebanisterial to a laboratory to experiment with modern design. With the Foundation of Tecno in 1953 and the continuous activity with Borsani Varedo furnishings, he develops a personal, refined and innovative language, always oriented towards absolute quality and integration between art, architecture and industry. The collaborations with artists such as Lucio Fontana and Arnaldo Pomodoro, who led him to conceive environments in which the furniture was no longer simple to be simpler, but part of a total vision of space, were fundamental in his journey. With Fontana it creates furnishings and panels in which the surface becomes a matter to be packed, to be open to light and to the gesture. With tomato it carries on formal research on the sign and matter, inserting sculptural elements in interior projects, in a constant dialogue between function and art. This table, for proportions, elegance and realization quality, can be read as an integral part of that unrepeatable creative season, in which the Italian design should be imposed on the international scene thanks to its ability to combine artistic culture and executive expertise. A work intended for collectors, architects and lovers of historical design who wish to integrate an authentic, rare and imbued with meaning into their spaces.
