Pair of Art Deco bookends with metal birds and Marquinia marble, 20s
Particular and original pair of bookends in Art Deco style, produced in a workshop in Saint-Ouen, a characteristic suburb of Paris (France) between 1925 and 1927. The Master craftsmen have performed them with a sophisticated fusion of a metal alloy, then finished them manually giving the birds a delicate and graceful shape, they have managed to submit the metal to their artistic sensibility creating two unique and fantastic objects, then, with the inventiveness and sensitivity that distinguishes them, they have subjected them to a delicate and complex treatment with special acids to make them take on elegant bronze hues. Marquinia marble was used for the rectangular base, high-quality fine-grained stone material with a deep black color, extracted from the region of Markina, Basque Country in northern Spain. The birds can also be used individually as decorative objects. The sculptures are in good condition, only in the marble bases, there are small and imperceptible imperfections (see photo).
