Splendid four-leaf screen in black lacquered wood, dating back to the mid-20th century (circa 1950). This piece represents a perfect combination of traditional oriental art and Mid-Century decorative taste, ideal as a separating element or as a scenic headboard for a bed.
Main Features
Front (Polychrome Decoration): The main side features a refined "full field" nature scene that develops on all the doors. The decoration, engraved and hand-painted with soft pigments, depicts the classic theme of "Flowers and Birds":
Symbolism: We can distinguish flowering peach/cherry branches (symbol of rebirth), lush peonies (symbol of nobility and wealth) and various species of birds, including pheasants and cranes, rendered with great care of feathered detail.
Technique: Engraving creates a light relief that gives depth and dynamism to the composition under the light.
Back (Minimalist Decoration): The back is lacquered in satin black and decorated with elegant gold line motifs. Each door encloses a box with stylized botanical essences (bamboo, orchids, plum), offering a sober and refined alternative when placed in the center of a room.
Structure and Details:
Feet: The bases are protected by original brass terminals, which protect the wood from moisture and wear.
Hinges: Original brass hinges that allow for a smooth bellows closure.
