4 Superleggere chairs by Gio Ponti for Cassina, 1960s
Superb group of four Superleggere chairs by Gio Ponti for Cassina, late 1960s. The Superleggera is a chair designed by the Italian designer in 1955 and produced by Cassina since 1957. It is one of the best known products of the Milanese designer and one of the most relevant industrial design products of the 20th century. It is in fact part of the permanent collection of the Triennale Design Museum and was exhibited at the 4th edition of the latter: Dream Factories. Due to its characteristics and the original demonstrations that accompanied its presentation to the public, the chair has become a cultural symbol and one of the most interesting examples of innovative technology applied to furniture. It was selected for the IV Compasso d'oro award (not winning it) and is part of the ADI Design Index selection. The conditions of the chairs are perfect, some small signs of aging due to their almost 60 years of life and two were maintained and restored to perfection in the 90s.
