Item description

Oil painting on canvas, the painter has depicted a theatrical set, setting it in a Roman archaeological site, she has schematized the whole landscape, but recognizes the Temple of Mars in the Forum of Augustus in Rome, to emphasize and reinforce the whole scene she placed the statue of Augustus in a niche at the top to dominate the acting of the actors on the stairway below. The main feature of this work is the beautiful distribution of light that becomes a sort of spotlight, a reflector that focuses on details and themes desired by the painter, making us concentrate on the primary scene of the work. The two elements of the painting are the central light and the shaded darkness on the sides, the contrast between light and darkness does not create dissonance, rather the two opposite elements complement each other, highlighting an important fact: light becomes the protagonist of the painter's message. The background no longer exists, we find ourselves before an enigmatic and disquieting chiaroscuro that urges the soul. Thanks to the targeted use of light, this painting has the power to bewitch, enchant and amaze. The painting is signed Anne Ouilem, painted between 1965 and 1970, we do not have much news on the author, we know that she is a great French painter who lived and worked in Brie (a region east of Paris) in the 1960s-1970s and participated in the XXXI Salon des Artistes Occitans 10.12.66 / 1.167 in Toulouse. Black lacquered wooden frame from the period. Measures of canvas cm: 70 x 90.
