The painting of Kodra, an Albanian painter who trained artistically in Italy and was active in Milan, consists of a personal interpretation, of a fantastical nature, of Cubism, in particular of the second phase of the pictorial period, defined as Synthetic Cubism, characterized by the choice of juxtaposing or superimposing distinct parts of a representation, often making use of significant techniques such as collage and papier collé.
In this work we can recognize a couple of people holding hands, a subject repeated several times by the artist with the title \"The couple\" or even \"The spouses\".
The characters are typically characterized by the decomposition of the human figure and objects into geometric planes and segments of clear color.
Kodra used a spare but intense palette, often dominated by earthy tones, ocher, reds and blacks, reminiscent of the colors of the Mediterranean.
On the back of the canvas there is a stamp of the G. Orio Contemporary Art Gallery in Milan, via Brera.
