Napoleon III sideboard in ebony-panelled oak by Georges Monbro, third quarter 19th century
Two-door Napoleon III sideboard, made by the cabinetmaker Georges-Alphonse-Bonifacio Monbro. Ebony-panelled oak frame, embellished with gilded gemstones and bronzes. White marble top arranged in lime, front with two doors decorated with reserves with vases of flowers and fruits made of stone in the centre, uprights at forty-five degrees, corbel feet. The bronzes, chiselled and gilded, depict leaf friezes, phytomorphic elements, godrons, rosettes, masks and volutes. Also made of gilded bronze are the pilasters of the uprights, decorated with bunches and grape vines and culminating in a caryatid and telamon. Interior doors veneered in mahogany. Stamped in several parts on the hull and bronzes. Restorations and replacements. Paris, 19th century.
