Luisa armchair by Franco Albini for Poggi, 1950s. Walnut structure and original sage green fabric upholstery. Albini, with his unique taste and future-oriented and timeless style, helped define the Mid-Century Italian aesthetic. He designed, among other things, the "Infinito" and "Veliero" bookcases produced by Cassina, a collection of chrome lamps designed for Sirrah and - perhaps his greatest achievement - the entire visual identity of line 1 of the Milan metro, later adopted as the standard for subways around the planet and awarded the Compasso d'Oro in 1965. This armchair, produced in the 1950s, is a wonderful piece of design and craftsmanship. The armrests - a somewhat particular choice for a modern dining room chair - integrate perfectly with the overall structure; the corners are highlighted by well-executed interlocking workmanship, while the feet show a thoughtful detail in the slight taper that offers a larger surface area. The armchair is preserved in original and intact condition. The fabric is in good condition but in the past the raised backrest was moved downwards and the upholstery has two holes in which screws were inserted. The backrest has been repositioned correctly, but a partial reupholstery or at least a patch may be needed to restore the chair to its original appearance. Seat height: 45 cm.
